Biography
Gwendoline Mary Moody was born on 26 March 1905,[1] in West End, Hampshire, the eldest daughter of James Edward and Mary Moody.[2] After leaving school she spent time in service in Carbis Bay, Cornwall, and at the vicarage in Fawley, Hampshire.[3] It was presumably while in service in Fawley that she met Lionel Vane Smith whom she married on 8 September 1934 at St James's church, West End. They lived in Holbury in Fawley parish for all their married life, and their two children were born there.[3] Gwendonline died on 26 May 1972, aged 67, and Lionel died on 27 July 1980, aged 76. They are buried at All Saints, Fawley.[4]
